Nestled into the Lincolnshire landscape, Wootton Hall truly is a haven for an editorial wedding photographer. It’s beautiful and elegant and, although it was beautifully decorated on this day, it really didn’t need anything added to make it memorable. I was honoured to attend a workshop hosted by Faye Wilde here recently, featuring the beautiful Raihanna and the sweet couple Phoebe and Jim.
The venue is absolutely incredible, and I had the opportunity to work with the most incredible suppliers, whom I will list down below!
I truly adore what I do and am happiest when I’m photographing, so will jump at the opportunity for a workshop. They are a space for me to ensure I’m keeping my skills fresh, to ensure I can perform to my highest ability for my own couples on their wedding day. They are also a space for me to get creative and practice new skills or ideas with a more editorial style, without the pressure of getting it right on a real wedding day!
This workshop was run to the pace of a real wedding day, giving me the perfect balance of freedom to be creative and the need to nail the shots in a short space of time. Myself and the other attending photographers worked in small groups of 3 or 4 and had just 10-15 minutes alone with Raihanna, Phoebe, and Jim in each room before rotating to another room, in-between their outfit changes. This wedding-day pressure keeps me on my toes and, although my creative eye is out, ensures I’m working at lightening speed to document everything I can see.
To tell the story of any person or couple, I use film-making techniques as a photographer, focusing on taking wide shots to set the scene, mid shots to tell the story, and close-up detailed shots to create intimacy. To create a truly diverse and immersive experience, I use flash and film photography to add depth and intimacy to the gallery. The workshop gave me space to experiment with both film and flash, again, without the pressure of getting it right on a real wedding day. Having this space to get it wrong, figure it out, practice, and get it right, allows me the opportunity to provide so much more to my own wedding couples!
Thank you to Faye and everyone else involved in this workshop – here are the wonderful suppliers and some of my favourite moments.
